Uber, the global taxi hailing app has experienced meteoric growth across the world ever since its launch in 2009. [More recently it’s been making inroads, in Sub-saharan countries, with operations in South Africa, Nigeria and earlier this year, in Nairobi. The online service lets customers order rides with vetted drivers through smartphones. Globally, Uber is now worth around $ 40 B, and its officials says it’s responsible for more than a million trips around the world everyday. However Uber has had its share of challenges as it attempts to increase its African market share. Traditional metered taxi drivers in South Africa have accused the app of undercutting them on price and hurting livelihoods.
